Self DefenseWalking down the street is often something you don’t think much of. You simply go where you need to go and do what you need to do. But when you’re walking by yourself, it’s a good idea to learn some self defense moves that will help protect your well-being should you find yourself in a situation that is less than attractive. When you are able to protect your body, you can walk through life more confidently, even if you don’t know all of the bone cracking moves that Steven Seagal does. Paying AttentionThe best self defense tip is to make sure you’re paying attention to the world around you. When you’re looking down or you look like you’re not watching where you’re going, you will look defenseless to those around you – and you are more likely to get attacked. Instead, make sure you are paying attention to your surroundings and standing up tall as you walk. Even if someone decides to attack you, you will be able to see them coming. If you have to walk in a dangerous area, try to walk with another person or find the safest possible route. It will also help to let a friend know when you are supposed to be home so that they can check in on you if you end up in trouble. Distracting Your AttackerIf you are attacked, the best thing to do is to distract your attacker as much as possible. Begin to yell and to move around a lot so that you can draw attention to yourself. You will also want to hit any part of the attack you can so that they focus on something else besides you. For example, kick their shins to make them bend down and then you can run away. The goal of distraction is to do something that makes the attack lose focus on you so that you can get to a safe place as quickly as possible. This move doesn’t have to be damaging to them, but it just needs to make them separate from you. The Places to HitWhen you need to hit an attacker, there are a few areas of the body you want to hit first:
These parts of the body are highly sensitive and they can be damaged easily. Punch or poke any of these areas with your hand or with a car key to make sure that you are getting the attacker to stop what they are doing. You might also want to aim for the crotch, but this isn’t as lethal as you might think. Plus, many attackers are waiting for it. If you can kick the side of their knee hard, this can be much more effective. Breaking a kneecap will allow you the chance to run away. Self defense is not about killing the other person, but about making sure you can stay safe. With these moves, you will be able to run in the other direction – the best self defense move there is. |
